On Wednesday, September 21, a local award ceremony for the Math Olympics for children took place in San Miguel de Allende, with La Biblioteca as one of the venues.

The Math Olympics, headquartered at the elementary schools Heroínas Insurgentes and Patria y Libertad, and at La Biblioteca, have taken place in San Miguel since December 2010 and are focused on outstanding children and teenagers. Elementary and middle school students are invited to participate, according to the dates given by the ONMAPS, operated from Mexico City and headquartered in Guanajuato’s capital. At the same time, the boys and girls are involved in the event of the Mexican Academy of Sciences (AMC) Competition Cotorra of Math, and Math Spring Competition. Both competitions begin with a state round, then national. Finally, the winning members of the team form a group that will represent the country in various international competitions.

The San Miguel de Allende competitors have won the following awards: National Olympic Games, bronze and silver for Alondra Galvan Patlán; Spring Math Contest, second place to Maria de la Paz López Gutiérrez; two third places for Ángel Ramirez Meza and Javier Tovar Cruz; and in the Cotorra Competition, first place for Maximiliano Gonzalez Soto, second for Alexis González Ledesma.
