A Night with the Red Cross
By Jesús Aguado
The city of San Miguel de Allende keeps growing, not just in construction, but also in population. The Red Cross therefore needs to grow in order to offer better service. Everybody is invited to the Third Gala Dinner, which will raise funds toward that goal.
Leticia Fernández, president of the Cruz Roja (Red Cross), told Atención that the organization received the deed for a plot situated on the boulevard de la Conspiración from the local administration in May. That space, she said, will be used for the construction of a subdelegation of the Red Cross, which will provide service to the northeast part of San Miguel. Fernández remarked that it currently takes up to 20 minutes to get from the delegation of the Red Cross to the upper part of the city. “A minute is very valuable in saving lives,” she said, and that is why that building must be constructed now. Fernández remarked that it will be very austere in its first phase. The final phase will be the fourth, and at that time it could shelter an office for a dentist and an ophthalmologist.
To make the first phase possible, 1.5 million pesos are needed. To raise that amount, the Third Gala Dinner, “A Night with the Red Cross,” is being prepared.
The event will include cocktail time before the serving of a three-course dinner, accompanied by the music of Chris Aude and vocals by Palmira Brizuela. The dinner will take place on Tuesday, September 27, at 7:30pm at the gardens of Rosewood San Miguel de Allende. Donation is 2,000 pesos.
During this dinner, the attendees will learn (in a creative way) the work that the Red Cross performs for the benefit of the Sanmiguelenses. A silent auction of 10 art works will also take place, including a talavera piece from Mexico City. Fernández said that a model will be portrayed with the talavera by a surprise artist. The painting, as well as the piece of talavera, will be included in the silent auction.
Tickets are available at Rosewood hotel, La Conexión, and La Buhardilla at Fábrica la Aurora. For more information call 152 4225.
