Auditions will be held in the Sala Literaria in Bellas Artes on September 10 for Spanish and on October 7 and 8 for English. The rules for auditioning are simple: your story should be three to seven minutes in length, and it should be recited from memory; all stories must be true or based on a true story.

Storytellers who wish to audition remotely may do a Skype audition on September 3 beginning at 10:30am. To make an English audition appointment (live or Skype), please contact Sharyn Bates at or 152 6515. To set up a Spanish audition appointment, e-mail Laura Duenas at

The San Miguel Storytellers will also be offering a Spanish-language workshop on September 2 and 3, as well as an English workshop on September 30 and October 1. The Storytelling Workshop is a wonderful opportunity to hone your craft. Learn everything from creating a story to performing it on stage in this hands-on workshop.

Laura Duenas and Paola Baño, two fabulous storytellers, teachers, and consultants, will teach the Spanish workshop. The English workshop will be led by five experienced storytellers/actors/directors: BC May, Maggie Bunce, Nathan Feuerberg, Stephanie Medlock, and Kate Rowland. Each workshop is nine hours spread across two days and includes post-workshop rehearsal time with the instructors. (Participation in the workshop is NOT required to audition to compete in the festival.)
