Social Club’s August and September Events

By Melinda Willson

A Hawaiian luau in the lush gardens of Villas Xichu is planned by Tha Scene San Miguel Social Club on August 31, and they will return to Villas Xichu pavilion for a Wear Your Own Fashion Show on September 28.

This club is simply about socializing at fun events, getting out regularly and meeting new people. It is organized by founder Camie Fenton Sands and her board of advisors, including Greg Gunter, Mellinda Wilson, and Renee Markulin. “We always have a surprise and over-the-top planning details to delight members and their friends at the major monthly event,” Sands commented. “The locations are custom picked for each event like the lush gardens and patios of Villas Xichu as being perfect for August 31’s Hawaiian luau with Polynesian dancers, the serving of two roast pigs, and all trimmings—not to mention their pavilion will be an ideal spot to listen to the sweet voice of David Garza who will also entertain.”

“We produce one major monthly event and then offer a ‘What’z Up Wednesday’ get together weekly at a restaurant/bar where we have negotiated a special offer for members, their friends, and even curious tourists who want to visit with San Miguel people, in English or Spanish,” Sands continued. “Casa 1810 Hotel graciously hosted us for four Wednesdays in July with free tapas and now Tha Scene’s ‘What’z Up Wednesday’ has been invited to gather at Quince, the exciting new rooftop restaurant/bar at Cuna de Allende number 15 with maybe the best view of the Parroquia in town. They are offering their mixologist’s ‘cocktail of the day’ at a two-for-one price, and they are delicious.”

Tha Scene San Miguel Social Club will return to Villas Xichu for the Wear Your Own Fashion Show in September when members and friends get to be the models styling one of their favorite outfits, including accessories that they don’t mind selling off their back. Or not—some will simply share what they think is hot. The event will be complete with make-up artists, a lesson in runway strutting, a fashion runway with DJ music, and a visit by San Miguel’s top models wearing featured designer apparel of the season by select local designers.

“As the club grows, members get first reservations to the major monthly event and come in entry-free, then pay a-la-carte for food and drinks. Nonmembers pay a 500-peso entry fee for the party and entertainment. To make sure you get in if you want to come to an event, it’s best to reserve early.  No reservations are needed to attend ‘What’z Up Wednesdays,’ but subscribing to the newsletter helps as it announces changes of location monthly,” concluded Sands.
