Danzón: The Big Eighth in the Jardín
By Leonardo Rosen
El Danzón Otros Ritmos Bailables con el Club de Danzón Mercerina presented its first admission-free event in the Jardín Principal of San Miguel de Allende on July 8, 2008. For six years, it was our custom to celebrate our anniversary during the Fiestas Patrias in September. Due to a total breakdown of communication with the previous authorities, we were not able to celebrate our seventh anniversary until the Feria de la Candelaria in February of this year. We are very grateful to the present municipal government for this.
Celebrating the Eighth Anniversary of El Danzón Otros Ritmos Bailables
With the Orquesta Marimba Tono 13
Sun, Aug 21, 5–8pm
Our event has always been very popular with residents and tourists, but we have always had to fight for survival or to restore continuity. Nevertheless, we arrive, standing tall, to celebrate our eighth anniversary with the live music of the Orquesta Marimba Tono 13. For this, muchísimas gracias to Arq. Gustavo Vidargas L., Director of Culture and Traditions and his staff, and of course to Lic. Ricardo Villarreal G., Presidente Municipal of San Miguel and the City Government.
So, here are the details: We invite our beautiful and faithful public to celebrate the Big Eighth Anniversary of El Danzón y Otros Ritmos Bailables on Sunday, August 21, 5–8pm, in the Jardín Principal of San Miguel, admission-free, with the live music of the Orquesta Marimba Tono 13. We’ll have social dance, dance exhibitions, and the presentation of reconocimientos (recognition) to some people who have helped us up to this point. Dear friends, you have always been the stars of this show. ¡Hey Familia, Danzón dedicado al pueblo de San Miguel de Allende!
