Meet La Biblioteca
In this series, one person at a time, go unfolding personalities behind the staff members of the Public Library of San Miguel. A small tribute to our colleagues and an effort to show the human side of this institution
A mermaid in both hair and voice, this friendly 29 year old is responsible for keeping the entrance to the ladies, and men’s restrooms.
Before seeing Alejandra, I heard her. I was coming down the stairs that connect the offices of Atención to the rest of La Biblioteca’s facilities. I heard a clear voice singing a lilting ballad by Mexican pop singer Alejandra Guzman, and there I saw Ale.
Ale, is a native of San Miguel. She has a keen knowledge of the town and the local people.
The bathroom it is a place where cleanliness, good organization, and care have a high priority. It is a place where everyone should be safe: boys and girls, elderly people, and members of the community.
Her desk functions as a mini-reception center. People ask questions and she provides varied information: Where is the Jardín? Where are the offices of Atención? What is in the newspaper this week? What time are the painting classes and guitar classes?
In addition, it is a place to buy the newspaper Atención San Miguel. Although Alejandra does not speak English, the language barrier is not usually an impediment to communicating with people. There’s always flowing dialogue.
Despite her anime physical appearance, Ale is a woman of strong character. Aries born, she’s stubborn and willful, while still being fair and displaying easy laughter.
Being a really confident woman, she does not compromise and claims not to change about anything or anyone. Take it or leave it, her way or the highway.
Alejandra has two passions in life: music and her three-year-old son, Andres Fernando.
The first has been with her since childhood. She cannot imagine life without music and without singing. Sometimes when going down the street, people greet her with “Bye-bye birdie.”
Her son is the great love of her life and her motivation. As a single mother, in life, and she tries to teach him to be independent, to become someone aware of his context to be respectful toward women.
Alejandra thinks of herself a creative person. She went to beauty school after high school and had hair in all colors of the rainbow. Her tresses are currently pink, purple, and blue. She likes to experiment and express her personality through her ever-changing appearance. You can find Ale every day during the normal hours of La Biblioteca, from 10am to 7pm.
