Terry Rose

By Carmen Gutiérrez

Galería Casa Diana has the honor of presenting our new artist, Terry Rose, in an inaugural cocktail show this coming Thursday, August 18, from 6 to 9pm. Terry spent many years in Los Angeles and Boston before moving to Shanghai. He has recently relocated to San Miguel, where he intends to continue his successful career as an artist. Terry studied art and design in Colorado, Chicago, and Iowa. He has an impressive history of commissions in Asia, the Middle East, and the US. His work is in the collections of the DeCordova Museum and Sculpture Park in Lincoln, Massachusetts, and at Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut. His work also decorates suites in the Royal Caribbean Cruise ship and Flagship Cruise lines. He has had numerous individual and group exhibitions in important galleries and museums such as the NAGA gallery in Boston, the Long Beach Museum, and the University of Maine.

Terry uses a unique method of coating surfaces with wet varnish and then dripping oil, ink, micron pigments, and enamel over them. This creates beautiful, spontaneous designs that seem to have been frozen in time during a fluid, gentle dance across the canvas. As Nick Capasso, Director of the Fitchburg Museum in Fitchburg, Massachusetts, so eloquently expressed, “Rose’s paintings, which point simultaneously to phenomena of the minuscule and the vast, are a visual poetics of this truth¾nothing is as a moment ago. They show us the primary condition of physics, life, and the human experience and reassure us that it is right and beautiful.”

For his debut at Casa Diana, he will be presenting recent paintings on canvas as well as a collection of his traditional micron pigments on aluminum panels and smaller format monotypes on paper.
