The Art of the Magical and the Mystical
By Dawn Gaskill
Art’s magical and mystical powers come from addressing our two levels of being: the conscious one that delights our eyes and senses, and the unconscious one that captures our imagination and speaks to our soul.

You will not want to miss the latest works of Dan and Nisha Ferguson (their work together is known as DaNisha Sculpture) and me. The art will delight you and engage you on many levels when we present our newest work at Casa de Europa. We all live in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico.
Dan, Nisha, and I are internationally recognized artists who work together and show our art at my Galeria Eclectica in the Instituto Allende. We enjoy collaborating because our work has a common spirit—one of joy and delight, expressed through intense color and a blend of the sacred and the whimsical. Don’t miss examples of our latest collaboration, Dawn & DaNisha Art Experience.
Join us in a 7-day art experience workshop to discover your personal archetypes and create your own ceramic masks. For workshop details visit www.dawndanishaartexperience.com.
I travel the world extensively, and my latest work, “Journeys,” provides a view of a world that may evoke a favorite place we’ve been or wish to visit. Contained within are symbols from ancient times and cultures that still speak to us today. My “Inner Journey” images stimulate the imagination and encourage us to seek within the ordinary, the seen and unseen that bridge our world with unseen worlds around us that connect us to higher aspects of ourselves. These images are a combination of encaustic and mixed media paintings.
Canadian artists Nisha and Dan Ferguson knew as children that they would be artists. From early childhood both were fascinated with drawing. They have an amazing partnership in life and in their work. Dan makes the sculptures for the images and has a wonderful facility for capturing magical expressions on the animals, while Nisha then draws and plans the colors for each sculpture. With Nisha’s unique and fanciful drawings and designs, no two are ever alike. They use two materials, ceramic and bronze. Much of their work is characterized by the fanciful dances of animals around the insides and outsides of bowls and other ceramic objects—and cityscapes, sometimes encompassing a whole town with all its buildings around a bowl.
The show, “The Magical and the Mystical,” is a rare opportunity to savor the exquisite art of marvelous artists. The work, vibrant and joyful, is a delight and an inspiration. You won’t want to miss it.
