What Is “Hot” Yoga?

“Hot” Yoga is a discipline that brings the body into balance daily, taking us from the imbalance we create in sports and our daily lives back into balance and alignment. We are reshaping and re-sculpting the body using heat to soften and relax the muscles. Unlike any other form of physical activity, Hot Yoga gives you energy as it revitalizes your mind, increases your concentration, and releases stress. When you heat the body in a Hot Yoga studio and practice the postures, you are less likely to injure yourself and you are more able to release blockages in your joints. Imagine your muscles, ligaments, and tendons are like thick rubber bands stretched to their maximum. When the rubber band is cold, it is more rigid; right? Now imagine heating the rubber band and stretching it to its maximum—it is more elastic, right? That is how the heated studio works with your muscles, ligaments, and tendons. There is also more cardiovascular stimulation as you raise your heart rate when your body is heated. By practicing in a Hot Yoga studio you will see results sooner than practicing in a cold yoga studio or a gym. The magic is in the heat in Hot Yoga.

Hot Yoga is for everyone. Your age or your size does not matter. Hot Yoga is an amazing rehabilitative style of yoga. It is also a rigorous practice as you deepen your experience practicing at your own pace. Your willingness to try to do the postures is what allows you to receive the full benefits of yoga. Hot Yoga is a series of postures that opens your body from one posture to the next; flowing and resting brings the heart rate up and allows it to return to normal in between postures. At the end of this 90-minute class, you will have worked all parts of your body while systematically moving fresh, oxygen-rich blood throughout your entire body.
