Dining for Destinies Debuts with Sold-Out Events
By Robin Loving
Dining for Destinies, a new series of uniquely entertaining fundraising feasts for Jóvenes Adelante, debuted in June and July with two sold-out events.
In June, an Out of Africa High Tea was sponsored by Beverly Moor in her beautiful home in Obraje. Featured were homemade infusions of guava, orange, and cherry as well as a delicious twist on black teas including apricot and blueberry by Ana Zamillo of Hojas de Te. Guests were treated first to a glass of Prosecco, fresh scones, and freshly smoked salmon finger sandwiches.
The table was graced by artfully designed fragrant floral arrangements including a nosegay for each of the eight guests. The Out of Africa theme continued with beautiful music from the movie and African textiles.
Co-host Carol Jackson, who co-chairs Dining for Destinies for Jóvenes Adelente, was excited to report that this premier event was sold out! The proceeds will support outstanding local honors students who otherwise could not afford to attend university and break the historic cycles of economic disparity into which they were born.
Also sold out was the second event in July, another private feast hosted by Anado McLauchlin and Richard Shultz at their Casa de las Ranas estate. Featured were a gourmet lunch al fresco of grilled chicken marinated in rosemary, honey, and ginger, served with fresh veggies, grilled Parmesan red peppers, and mango with strawberries in balsamic vinegar and brown sugar.
“Watch for news of additional sensational public and private dining events in every season,” said Jackson. “And, let me know if you are interested in hosting a fascinating event to support the local honors students who otherwise could not afford to attend university and break the cycles of historic economic disparity into which they have been born,” she concluded.
