The Spirit of Adventure
Wherever We May Roam

As you are reading this, maybe at home, maybe in the jardin over coffee, Leslie and I are away on our long awaited honeymoon, and since our beautiful wedding day back in March we’ve been counting down the weeks and days until it came around. But at long last it’s finally here, and we could not be more excited. And where are we right now? Montego Bay, Jamaica.
Neither of us have been to the Caribbean before, and having both grown up by the beach, myself in Lowestoft, England, and Leslie in Santa Cruz, California, we are over the moon about exploring, relaxing and spending time on Jamaica’s world famous white sand beaches. Did I mention it was an all-inclusive resort? No? Well, as you can imagine, there are libations aplenty and amazing food to match.
But it is not only the actual vacations that make traveling wonderful. The planning and anticipation of such a trip are often as much fun as the trip itself. The first question we asked each other about our honeymoon plans, was ‘Where shall we go?’ We are pretty fortunate in that we work from home, and because we manage our own schedules it gives us the freedom to more or less go when and where we want, and the Caribbean seemed like the perfect romantic destination for our honeymoon.
So, deciding on the Caribbean was easy, but narrowing it down to a particular nation or island proved more tricky, with literally hundreds of stunning options open to us. Googling images of exotic places such as Antigua, Curacao and The British Virgin Islands gave us a tantalizing glimpse of what was to come, but we eventually decided on Montego Bay, and what a great choice it was.
But our exciting trip doesn’t end with a sunset cocktail in Montego Bay. After Jamaica we will fly to Dallas and begin a week-long road trip to Miami via New Orleans, and after that we’ll be house and dog sitting for a few weeks in the Bahamas. It’s not that we don’t love being at home in San Miguel. We really do. We are so happy to live in this beautiful and inspiring city that we now call home, but in both of us the lure of the road and new adventures is strong.
All the places I’ve mentioned are places I have never been, and for me, that’s the beauty of travel, the very essence of the spirit of adventure. Delving into the unknown, mixing with people from different cultures and traditions to our own, experiencing new foods, visiting museums and galleries and admiring the vast range of magnificent architecture, and witnessing everything that nature has to offer, from wild coastlines to steaming jungles, and picture perfect beaches to hidden mountain waterfalls; all these things and many more are why travel is and always will be magical. And of course, sampling the local beverages.
