Forever Patsy Cline at the San Miguel Playhouse

By Judy Newell

“I can’t stop singing Patsy,” declared Mikki Prost, the entertainer who stars in Forever Patsy Cline. The show opens next weekend at the San Miguel Playhouse.

“With each new song I learn of hers, the deeper she descends into my soul,” she continued. “She related the lyrics to her life and sang them that way.

“When I sing, I imagine that I have a clear feeling of her being on my right side with her arm over my shoulders telling me, ‘Sing it, Hoss, and tell ‘em what it was like for me.’”

Mikki grew up in New Jersey listening to Patsy Cline’s crossover hits because country music wasn’t popular there. It wasn’t until she appeared in the play Always Patsy Cline that she began her “appreciation, love, and respect for this truly amazing woman with such an outstanding voice” and fell in love with her country songs, too.

Mikki has just completed the fifth season of her tribute show to Patsy in Puerto Vallarta. She comes at each season from a different angle and brings in songs she hasn’t sung before.

“I have people who’ve been coming back to this show each season. Many people in Puerto Vallarta actually call me Patsy. What an honor that is!”

Victor Vega, Mikki’s accompanist for Forever Patsy Cline plays the guitar, bass, piano, and various percussion instruments. He and Mikki have been friends for 18 years. He is a music teacher, vocal coach, composer, arranger, producer, and musical director.

Victor has recorded three CDs and produced 12 instructional guitar videos. Live recordings of his performances have received over 10,000 views on YouTube and Facebook.

Mikki has clearly enjoyed her years of living in Puerto Vallarta. “Why did I stay in Mexico?” Mikki mused. “I was able to reinvent myself, and for the first time in my life I got to experience and live my passions—teaching yoga, 40 years total, and participating in as much theater as I wanted every year since 2001, living in a beautiful, warm, affordable place with great people who smile when you see them. What have I learned by all this experience? A s…load of patience! If you don’t have that, Mexico isn’t for you.”

“Forever Patsy Cline” plays Friday through Sunday, June 24–26, at the San Miguel Playhouse. Shows are at 7:30pm on Friday and Saturday, with a Sunday matinee at 3pm. Tickets are 250 pesos.

Tickets are on sale at the Galeria Ensueños, Mesones 57A at the corner of Reloj, from 10:30am to 2pm daily except Tuesdays, and at the Playhouse one hour before show time.

The San Miguel Playhouse is located at Av. Independencia 82. There is free secure parking, a taxi concierge, and all seats are reserved. The Playhouse is wheelchair accessible. Come early and enjoy a glass of wine at the bar.
