“Tha Scene” Social Club Hosts Italian Wine Soiree

By Gregory Gunter

The newly minted San Miguel Social Club called “Tha Scene”—brainchild of local entrepreneur Camie Sands—hosts its first widely-publicized public event after polishing the club’s focus and mission through two prior soft-opening events. The public is invited to join us June 24 for an Italian Wine Soiree as we learn about the wines of Tuscany at my home. I am an Advisory Board member, Italian wine aficionado, and realtor.

Italian Wine Soiree
Hosted by Tha Scene Social Club
Fri, Jun 24, 7:30–9:30pm
Aldama 72, interior casa 5
US$25 or 450 pesos

“Tha Scene” was created to promote expansion of San Miguel residents’ social horizons with friendships and networking opportunities. This club allows interested people—singles and couples, retirees and working people—to meet, mingle, and relax at monthly events boasting a little something extra, whether education, fundraising, or just plain fun! It’s all about meeting people with ease.

I volunteered to host what I love: drinking and promoting Italian wines. And who better to educate the event attendees than Italian oenophile and former wine maker, Richard Simeone, who distributes and promotes wines from the Tuscan winery where he lived many years: Fattoria La Ripa, a winery once owned by the father of Mona Lisa, the subject in Leonardo da Vinci’s most famous painting.

Simeone will walk attendees through the history and wines of this DOCG-designated winery located in the heart of Tuscany’s Gallo Nero district, well known to wine aficionados as the most important Chianti district in Italy. We’ll taste Sangiovese and Canaiolo blends from this winery that also produces the SuperTuscan called “Santa Brigida.”  Post-tasting, Simeone will offer these wines—soon to be distributed at Costco—at special pricing to attendees. Bring extra cash to secure your order!

And what’s an Italian wine without great Italian food? Firenze Ristorante chef and owner Antonio Arrieta Delgadillo will cater an Italian antipasti buffet to savour as you work your way through the tasting.

As host and an architect whose own Umbrian fattoria won design awards, I’ll provide an Italian environment for the evening, replete with Italian antiques dating to the 18th century. Want to blend with your environment?  Wear your best Kenneth Branagh Much Ado About Nothing attire, or simply sport a silver sommelier’s cup around your neck! If you can hold a wine glass, you’ll fit right in!

For ticket purchases (450 pesos or US$25) or more information about this and upcoming “Tha Scene” events, see www.meli.biz/san-miguel-social-club or email organizers Camie Sands at CamieInMX@gmail.com or Melinda Willson at Melinda.Willson@gmail.com. Brindiamo—bottoms up on June 24!
