Sabores San Miguel Celebrates Its Fourth Annual Event

It’s nearly time to once again celebrate our gourmet food festival, Sabores San Miguel! It will be held at Parque Juárez, June 17–19. The festival is free and each dish and beverage will be sold at 30 pesos maximum.

Sabores San Miguel is a food festival that gathers our culinary community and promotes its local gastronomic delights, including restaurants, producers of bread, cheese, wine, beer, mescal, and organic produce.

The festival includes demonstrations, workshops, tastings, music, and kids’ activities. As in previous years, there will be live music, with the band Atomic headlining the festival. DJs like Symmetry, BeGolden, MCMeow, Audiochef, and Sekfrommars will also work their magic throughout the weekend.

The festival officially kicks off Friday, June 17, from 6pm until 10pm. On Saturday, June 18, it is open from noon to 8pm. Participating restaurants will offer samples of gourmet food that showcase their style and specialties. And for the last feasting day, Sunday, June 19, from noon to 6pm, the theme will be “Street Foods of the World,” recreating worldwide outdoor food markets. Also on Sunday, you can celebrate the annual Desfile de Los Locos as well as Father’s Day.

This year we have as our guest chef Paul Anders from Sweet Basil and Mountain Standard, both in Vail, Colorado. Vail and San Miguel de Allende became “Sister Cities” back in July 2015, with the goal of promoting a cultural, artistic, and culinary exchange. Another of our guest chefs is Paul Bentley from Magno Brasserie in Guadalajara. The sous chef and person in charge of “creativity and development” at Pujol, Coco Becker, will participate, too.

On Thursday, June 16, we will have a very special benefit dinner at The Restaurant with guest chefs Paul Anders and Paul Bentley and our local talented chefs Carlos Zamora (Moxi, Matilda), Donnie Masterton (The Restaurant), Marco Cruz (Bui), Matteo Salas (Áperi), and Víctor Palma (Rosewood). Proceeds will benefit Feed The Hungry San Miguel. The event includes a cocktail hour plus a seven- course tasting menu and drinks. You can get tickets for the benefit event at The Restaurant (Sollano 16), Birdie’s Burgers & Taco Lab (Relox 18), El Vergel Market, and online. Tickets for the benefit are 2,200 pesos/US$130, and seating is limited.

Confirmed participants for the festival are: Abrazos, Ambrosia, Bhaji, Blime Cuchillos, Buenos Aires Bistro, Bui, Carne Vino, Casa de Aves, Casa Sierra Nevada, Cent’anni, Cervecería Dos Aves, La Parada, Mente Cacao, Moxi, Rosewood, Salón Oaxaca, San Miguel Gourmet, Spirulinaviva, and The Restaurant. New participants for the festival this year include El Vergel Bistro, María Xoconostle, Pork Belly, Santísima Trinidad, and Soul Kitchen.
