The white canvas covering the logotype and the pelican of Mega on salida a Celaya will remain for eight more days. The new advertisement for La Comer “is on its way” and will be of the same material as the one it covers.
Mega Comercial is in a transition process. In January 2015 Soriana purchased 160 stores—Mega, Comercial Mexicana, Bodega Comercial, and Al Precio—all belonging to the same company. Now Soriana got a three-year-license to use the company’s software as well as a two-year-permit for using the logotype and image of the pelican.
In the last week of May, a canvas with the new name of the store, Mega Comercial, appeared ,covering the old Mega name. Putting up the canvas was denounced before the Urban Development Department for not respecting the Regulation for Advertisements in San Miguel. The department conducted an inspection and requested the removal of the canvas.
Manuel Orozco, legal counsel for the local administration, advised that the store cannot use the Mega mark anymore, and they put up the canvas with the new name for legal reasons. “It was illegal and they removed it. But they requested a permit to place the white canvas to cover the logotype until the new one arrives. It will be there for approximately eight more days. The fabric with the words will be the same as the old one, and the whole advertisement will measure seven meters long and five meters high.
Orozco assured that when there is a violation to the regulation, the fines can go from 100 to 500 minimum daily wages. An employee from Mega, or La Comer, told Atención that with the changes, the clothing section will disappear.
