Your Important Role in the Democratic Presidential Primary as US Citizen Living Abroad
By Marc Berube
Democrats Abroad, the official arm of the Democratic Party outside the United States, held a Global Primary worldwide from March 1 through March 8.
Five hundred Democrats in San Miguel de Allende voted in person for their preferred candidate on Tuesday, March 1. While San Miguel’s ballots were cast 54 percent in favor of Bernie Sanders and 46 percent in favor of Hillary Clinton, Democrats living abroad worldwide voted 69/31 in favor of Sanders. Our voices were heard in terms of whom we favor as the Democratic nominee.
Now, what’s next? What more can you do to support the most important election in our lifetime? Support the presidential election campaign team here in San Miguel, and most importantly, vote in the November 8 US presidential election!
Voting in the primary doesn’t count as a vote in the November election. The primary determines the candidate who will represent the Democratic party, but it doesn’t elect the president. You need to register to vote in your home state and vote by absentee ballot from here in San Miguel. We are here to help you understand the process and ensure you register, receive your ballot, and submit your all-important vote for November. The online site votefromabroad.org was designed to make this as easy as possible for you. We will help you. For more information, please contact Info-MX-SMA@democratsabroad.org.
