Looking For a Few Good Women

Good news for the theater-loving public of San Miguel de Allende! This coming winter, audiences will be treated to an innovative theatrical experience when 10 multi-talented actresses appear in the beloved stage classic I Remember Mama, by John Van Druten. The play will be directed by Mary Birmingham, who was lucky enough to see the Off Broadway reinvention by the Transport Theater Group. The Obie Award-winning theater company won critical acclaim when a cast of 10 veteran actresses took to the stage to play all 23 roles, all ages, and both genders. It occurred to Mary that this “outside the box” approach would be ideal for San Miguel. “We have a diverse and sophisticated audience here,” said Ms. Birmingham. “We also have a collection of incredibly versatile actresses here. It makes perfect sense that our San Miguel audience would be intrigued and eager to support this ensemble when they come together to do what they do best—act.

Open auditions for actresses of all ages will be held Monday, November 14, from 10am to 1pm and Tuesday, November 15, from 10am to 1pm at the Sala Quetzal in the Biblioteca. I Remember Mama will be presented at the Teatro Santa Ana on February 2, 3, and 4, 2017, at 7pm.
