Tuesday Concerts at MuvArte

By Luis Camarena

Although these concerts have become well known, I would like to mention once again the music that Maria Sánchez and her select group of musicians present every Tuesday at MuvArte. For two years, this monumental gallery has been showing us its artists’ portfolios. Now it is offering a unique combination of excellent concerts and outstanding gallery art.

As you listen to a concert of Mexican and Latin American music, you will feel surrounded by the halo of art exhibited in the gallery. Currently, the public can see the contemporary sculptures of Carlos Ballester, an artist who deserves an article dedicated just to him.

Rarely do you have the opportunity to hear concerts in an area of such intimacy. Sitting just a step from the stage, you can listen to the superb pianist Gabriel Hernández, who seems to navigate over the keys as if in a trance; the strength of Alex Gutiérrez playing the guitar or bass; the pleasant, stimulating candor of Federico Azuz and his beloved guitars; the precise Víctor Monterrubio’s percussions; and the always impeccable and undeniably charismatic Maria Sánchez, whose rich voice has the ability to reach deep into the roots of Latin America.

The program presented to us every week is delightfully varied. The music of our Latin America gives a lot, from the Cuban sones to bossa nova and from the canto nuevo to the Mexican song. Come, feel it, and enjoy.

Concerts are offered in MuvArte Gallery every Tuesday at 7pm (coming soon on Saturdays). Prolongación Valle de Alcocer 32, a few meters from SAPASMA. or call 152 2425 or 415 100 6243.
