Better Security is Everyone’s Business
By Robin Loving Rowland
“Better security is everyone’s business,” said David Bossman, one of the founders of Sanmiguelenses Unidos, an organization founded in October 2013 by people concerned about security in our community. Bossman will present on the same topic Tuesday, May 10, at 12:30pm at Rotary at Hotel Misión, Salida a Querétaro 1. The presentation will be free and in English.

“Our organization has developed a close working relationship with local government in order to decrease crime and strengthen safety,” continued Bossman. “The scope of security is much broader than a police force. Helping to remove an abandoned car on your street, improving lighting in your neighborhood, and getting involved in Vecinos Vigilantes are all things that we can do to develop a safer environment for ourselves and our families,” Bossman maintained.
His organization now shares a first floor office in the Old Presidencia on the north side of the Jardin next to the tourist office in order to advise residents on how to handle any security-related issue or how to contact the appropriate government office to get action. If necessary, they provide free legal services to crime victims. Volunteers staff the office on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings. Appointments can also made by calling 415 101 3149 or on a walk-in basis.
Bossman will answer questions about security issues and provide ideas for crime prevention. As a member of the Mayor’s Advisory Council on Security, he will take any suggestions on how to improve security in neighborhoods. Rotary unites neighbors, community leaders and global citizens for the common good. For more information, contact President David McGinnis at email@example.com and see rotarysmamidday.org.
