The Little People
By Jade Arroyo
In México, we celebrate kids on April 30 (and the rest of the year, unofficially). To celebrate Children’s Day, the city offers several fun options. Check them out. Don’t forget that in every person there is a child who wants to play and enjoy the imagination.
Mexican Folk Toy Museum “La Esquina” Nunez, corner of San Francisco, 30/20pesos
This place fascinates children. Its colorful rooms enchant young and old. Everywhere you look there are toys of all types and forms. The permanent exhibition, which has more than a thousand pieces, is amazing. There is also a shop full of wonderful toys and gifts.
Xote Aquatic Park, Carr. Dolores Hidalgo Km 5.5, 155 8330
Full of slides, gardens, waterfalls, and aquatic games, this water park offers children fun with greater freedom being in contact with nature and water. (And grown-ups can relax as well.) It’s a perfect location for a picnic with family and friends.
Ice cream? Bosco. Cuna de Allende 3.
Italian style gelatos, a true delight. All the flavors are delicious, from classics like chocolate or vanilla, to more unusual options, such as tiramisu or fruit, like mango or passion fruit options.
For a stroll in contact with nature (and maybe some adventure), visit the Charco del Ingenio. It is the nature reserve and botanical garden that is the pride of Sanmiguelenses. This place is a stunning beauty, displaying a large collection of natural species and a haven for birds and wildlife. There is an area with slides and magical spots that kids love. El Charco del Ingenio is located 10 minutes from downtown, at the exit to Querétaro (a taxi takes you for 40-50 pesos). For more information visit elcharco.org. General admission is 40 pesos, children under 10, free, and students and teachers with ID, 30 pesos.
