El Vergel Bistro & Market Celebrates Its Grand Opening!

By Ángela Lewis Serrano

El Vergel Bistro opened its doors “softly” the last week of March, serving breakfast and lunch Tuesday through Sunday, focusing on French bistro fare. Now the entire San Miguel community can celebrate the grand opening of the plaza, which includes the bistro and market.

If you haven’t been there, do visit and check out the menu. You will find breakfast items until noon, such as Eggs Benedict; Eggs Florentine with portobello mushrooms, spinach, Emmental cheese, and red pepper pesto; Croque Monsieur; and sandwiches and quiches as well as fresh pressed juices and great coffee. For lunch you will find a classic salmon tartare, French onion soup, salad Niçoise with fresh tuna, steak frites, mussels steamed in wine and saffron, trout Amandine, and a full bar with a selection of wines. El Vergel is dog friendly, so bring your doggies!

The grand opening of El Vergel Bistro & Market will be this Friday, April 29, from 5 to 8pm. There will be live music, beverages, and hors d’oeuvres. El Vergel is located just off the road to Dolores Hidalgo, directly across from Candelaria, just a 10 minutes drive from the Jardín.

El Vergel Market will offer a variety of gourmet products including wine, a selection of cheeses, marmalades, sauces, dry goods, bread, and an assortment of salads, soups, and goods prepared in-house. The market is opening this weekend and will soon be offering delivery, from Atotonilco all the way to La Aurora. El Vergel Plaza has five locales, which includes Sollano 16 interior, with more to come.

Houston Harte, Daniel Hernández, and chef Donnie Masterton are the minds behind El Vergel Bistro & Market. Norma Suárez, director of operations, and Magda Elisa Pablos, chef de cuisine, are also part of the team.

Located in the countryside, El Vergel is the perfect spot to enjoy good food before or after visiting the hot springs, and to get away from the occasional madness that we can encounter in El Centro. The bistro is planning on extending its hours for dinner in the near future, so stay tuned. Follow El Vergel on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter @elvergelsma, or sign up for its newsletter by sending an email to elvergelsma@gmail.com. For reservations and inquiries, call 415 110 2254.
