Would You like a Tibetan Blessing?

By Alicia Mayo

We have with us the Lama Samten from the Samtenling Monastery of Katmandu, Nepal. Samten has been a monk for twenty years and when you ask him why he became a monk, his answer is “To practice Buddhism. Being a single person I have the time and space to better serve and fulfill my Dharma. If I were married I would have to live for my family.” Samten means “concentration”. He was previously here in San Miguel with five other Lamas in 2012. The money gained in his offerings will be for the reconstruction of Samten’s Monastery which was affected by the big earthquake of May 25, 2015. The activities that Samten will offer are the following:

Blessings and harmonization of home or business: Pujas are ceremonies accompanied by offerings to deities, Buddhas, and protectors. The aim is to remove obstacles and negativities and create harmony and success for those living in your home or for your business. You will need to have fruit, flowers, rice, incense, candles, and water. Duration about 45 minutes.

Blessing ceremony for children: For good health and intelligence and learning at school. To have a long life full of wisdom and to remove obstacles in children’s lives.

Incense puja: Ceremonies to remove obstacles. 90 minutes.

Tara puja: Ceremony for protection, prosperity, and health. 30 minutes.
