Wherever We May Roam
By Steven Moore and Leslie Patrick Moore
Atención is pleased to introduce our new travel columnists, newlyweds Leslie Patrick Moore and Steven Moore, aka their travel blog aliases, The Chic Adventurer and The Twenty First Century Nomad.
Leslie, a native of California, has forged a successful writing career, specializing in freelance journalism and travel writing, with several pending novels up her sleeve. Steven, an Englishman, taught ESL for many years in South Korea, and as well as dabbling in travel writing and photography. He is now focusing on his novel writing career.
Because they have more than 35 years of traveling experience between them, and almost 100 countries under their belts, we are excited to have them on board.
“One of the first things we learned about each other when we met five years ago was that we both loved to travel. We did meet in South Korea, after all, so it came as no surprise. As it turns out, we have been traveling the world together ever since, culminating in buying our first home together here in San Miguel. As writers who travel a lot, both for work and for pleasure, it seemed the right time to put down some roots and secure a home base, and what better and more inspiring place to return home to after traveling than this beautiful city.
“Travel is incredibly important to us. It’s an innate requirement in us both, and in many ways it defines who we are. We’re lucky enough to be able to work and pursue our careers from almost anywhere in the world, as long as there is a reliable internet connection, and because of that freedom, during the last five years we’ve traveled, lived and worked in more than twenty countries, including Korea, Thailand, Egypt, France, Indonesia, India, Cambodia, and, here in Mexico. It’s a fortunate position to be in, and we never take it for granted. But it’s not all luxury travel though, far from it, and working on the road can be a challenge. But it’s definitely a way of life, and one that we thrive on.
We firmly believe that travel gives people a greater understanding about the world, of both its people and its cultures—not to mention all the wonderful places to explore and immerse oneself in—whether it’s hiking in the Himalayas and rafting in Bali, or shopping in Tokyo and riding horses in Argentina. Maybe teaching in Korea, or even house and pet-sitting in France. We survived the crocodile Cage of Death in Australia, and we sometimes even visit our own countries. But whatever kind of traveling we do, it always gives us a new and unique perspective of the world around us, and we can’t wait to share some of our travel tales, experiences, tips, and recommendations with you in Atención’s new weekly travel column, Wherever We May Roam.
