Puerto Vallarta Hosts Movie Premiere
On April 14, the Puerto Vallarta Tourism Board hosted the premiere of the movie Sundown with its celebrity cast and celebrated director Fernando Lebrija. Sundown is the latest motion picture to be entirely shot in Puerto Vallarta, adding to some 30 US film productions that have taken place there.
Scheduled to open in the US and Canada on May 14, Sundown is one of two films premiering this year that were partly funded by the State of Jalisco’s new filming commission (COFIEJ) and it was almost completely shot in Puerto Vallarta. The other film, the Sundance Festival favorite Mr. Pig, was directed by Diego Luna and starred Maya Rudolph and Danny Glover. With the establishment of COFIEJ, more national and international films are expected to be filmed in Puerto Vallarta in the upcoming years.
Wine & Food Festival Promises Gastronomic Fireworks
Food and wine lovers from across the globe are licking their lips in anticipation of the annual Cancun-Riviera Maya Wine & Food Festival. Slated for April 27–May 1 and among the largest culinary festivals in the Caribbean, the tasteful event presents an impressive roster of locations for sampling a virtual smorgasbord of dishes created by celebrity chefs.
The 2016 edition will shine the spotlight on the flavors of Spain and Mexico while paying homage to Chef Alejandro Ruiz, ambassador of Oaxacan cuisine, and Chef Albert Adria, who is lauded as one of the top pastry chefs in the world.
In tribute to the stellar culinary pair, the Cancun-Riviera Maya Wine & Food Festival will host two separate tribute dinners—one at Aqua Live Cancun and the other at Secrets The Vine Resort & Spa. The five-course affairs will find these renowned chefs joined by culinary colleagues and friends to celebrate the impact each has made on the world of gastronomy.
Chefs will also guide festival conference sessions and cooking classes at Anahuac Cancun University. Those attending can also enjoy a Star Chefs Dinner featuring 20 of Mexico’s top chefs and specialized tasting workshops that shed light on the universe of spirited and delicate drinks. The highly anticipated Gourmet Tasting Village will serve up an all-inclusive journey of gourmet food, liquor, wine, and live music.
April in Paris
As President Obama has said, more Americans will be killed in a bathtub accident (464) this year than have ever been killed by terrorists in Europe.
“The whole premise of terrorism is to try to disrupt people’s ordinary lives,” Obama said about the Brussels terrorism attacks. He was traveling in Cuba when the attacks in Brussels happened. The symbolism of Obama addressing the world from such a historically loaded backdrop as Cuba should not be lost on us; this is a time to be boldly taking down barriers, not putting up walls.
Travelers should not curtail their plans to go to Europe. The continent needs us now, more than ever. Their tourism industry has taken an immediate hit. Since the bombings in Brussels, hotel occupancy has dropped to 67 percent in Paris, and 58 percent in London.
April in Paris is wonderful. Sounds like a great time to travel to me. Empty hotels mean no crowds. You can get reservations at the best restaurants and travel prices are dirt cheap.
