One Dead and Four Injured

By Atención San Miguel

On Sunday, April 10, at Nuevo Pantoja, two men were wounded with a firearm during a street fight, according to the District Attorney’s Office (Ministerio Público). The men were taken to a hospital and they were reported to be in stable condition.

A crime was recorded at 4:30am when the Ministerio Público received the report that a body was found on avenida Guadalupe, adjacent to plaza El Parián. The Forensic Service found the dead body of Jorge, a 26-year-old Sanmiguelense who was wounded by gunshots. Two more men related to this crime were taken to a hospital and their health condition is currently unknown.

The Secretariat of Public Safety advised that the deceased was talking with two men when other people arrived in two vehicles. After an argument, they shot Jorge and his companions.

Mayor Ricardo Villarreal commented that “all the cities have problems with security matters.” He assured that the dead man was involved in illegal activities. He also remarked that “when young people are involved in illegal activities, their life expectancy diminishes.” The mayor called on all young men to find legal, honest jobs “that will give them more opportunities.” Villarreal remarked that safety is not about having more police officers, but about organizing more activities to keep the young people busy. As an example, he mentioned the physical exercises that took place in the Jardín Principal this Monday morning.

On the other hand, he commented that his administration is still recruiting Sanmiguelenses who love San Miguel to be trained and later added to the police department. Villarreal also noted that during his six months of administration, business and house robberies have decreased 40 percent.

The crime statistics obtained from the National System of Public Security are printed on Atención every Friday.
