CNC Presents Troy Bel-Jon Works of Art to Benefit the SPA
From the SPA
By Megan Gabel
You are invited to a fabulous art opening April 15 from 5–7, benefiting the SPA and hosted by CNC, Casa Nueva Consignación, a relatively new consignment store in San Miguel de Allende. Located at Calzada de la Estación 149, just down the street from the bus station in a bright yellow building, this industrial space has blossomed into an inviting store with an amazing collection of furniture, art, and antique Persian and Kilim carpets for sale. Managed by Jenifer Phillips with a loving hands-on approach, the space is filled with interesting and exciting items, mostly coming from the homes of people who moved away from San Miguel and could not take their prized possessions with them.

Sales proceeds will benefit the SPA. In addition, CNC will donate 5 percent of all sales proceeds to the SPA for all other purchases made on April 15! There will be mezcal tastings and food and drink to purchase at the opening event. For 10 pesos apiece, you may buy chances to win a bag of coveted Idaho potatoes.
Troy Bel-Jon (1920–2003) was an artist who, with her husband, had studios in San Francisco and New York. Metal was their canvas, abrasives, their brushes. Their color palette was light. When her husband suddenly died, Troy completed the outstanding commissions and continued to receive commissions. She used techniques working on stainless steel, brass, bronze, and aluminum. After her husband’s death, over a 12-year period, she created 22 murals and 17 patterned commissions. A few of her major commissions were Blue Cross Blue Shield, Air India JFK, Bergdorf Goodman, and Neiman Marcus. Troy moved to San Miguel de Allende in 1986. During her later years she continued to develop methods of expressing movement and emotion via light and shadow on metal by applying color to her metal canvases.
So, not only will you have the opportunity to purchase a fine work of art, you will also be helping the SPA at the same time. As the only no-kill shelter for cats and dogs in San Miguel, the SPA receives its only source of income in donations. We provide food, care, and shelter for about 100 animals and have a lower cost clinic with a full-time vet who takes care of SPA resident animals and pets belonging to the community. Please spread the word, invite your friends, and join us for this very special evening!
