Procession of Condolences

Procession of Condolences

By Jesús Aguado

On Good Saturday, the Virgin of Solitude is dressed in dark and mourning colors—black and purple—and in her hand she carries a tissue to wipe away her tears of sorrow. In this procession the virgin is carried by women in mourning, and the intention is to allow the attendants to give their condolences to the sorrowful mother of Christ after his passing. The Virgin of Solitude represents strength to face the difficulties in life.

This event takes place at El Oratorio on Saturday, March 26. A mass is held—it lasts at least two hours—and after it, the sculpture of Our Lady of Solitude is carried out of the church and strolled around the atrium. In the end, the flowers adorning Virgin Mary are given to the attendees.
