Over the years the Biblioteca has received generous support from many donors. Our Donor Recognition Wall inside the library attests to the generosity of many of these donors. In 2015 there were 67 donors who made gifts totaling US$33,179 dollars and 73,170 pesos for scholarships, education classes, books, and general purposes.

In 2015 the Biblioteca spent a total of 861,148 pesos for the following: 96,395 pesos for Spanish books, 44,759 for English books, 501,000 for scholarships, 226,994 for all education classes for Mexican children and youth. We raised approximately 38,807 dollars in donations, but the total cost for all these items was 66,242.

The Biblioteca Donor Choice Program allows donors to choose which programs and services they wish to support. In addition, the donor brochure outlines the costs of books, scholarships, and education classes to give donors some guidance. The donor database tracks donations and ensures that donors are thanked, recognized, and invited to donor recognition events. All of these initiatives help the Biblioteca inform and maintain contact with donors.

All Biblioteca donations are tracked cumulatively to encourage supporters to become annual/monthly donors. Become a Biblioteca Friend with any donation under US$100. A tile in your name is installed on the donor wall when total gifts reach US$1,000 and you become a member of the Presidents Circle. Over the past five years 45 tiles have been added to the donor wall from donors contributing US$1,000-US$100,000. Some of the largest single donations came from bequest donors or grants.

Donors receive a letter of thanks from the President of the Biblioteca plus a Mexican or US tax receipt they can use to offset their tax burden. These tax receipts are issued by the Biblioteca. Since 2011 Canadians can also receive tax receipts by donating through AmistadCanada.org or online at Canadahelps.org and choosing Amistad Biblioteca Education Project. Supporters can link to any of the options including online donations with a credit card on the Biblioteca web site at bibliotecasma.com. Donations can honor someone or be a memorial and we will advise the family.

All our donors appreciate how important it is to support a vital institution like the Biblioteca. Without public funding, it has provided wide-ranging free educational services and scholarships for Mexican children, as well as cultural and library services for the San Miguel Community and visitors for more than 60 years.

Please consider making a gift or becoming an annual donor to ensure the future sustainability of La Biblioteca so there will always be a lovely courtyard to sit in, books to read, children’s programs, scholarships, cultural events, and a place to meet friends for coffee. Think about how much you enjoy coming to La Biblioteca. Become a donor today and encourage your friends and visitors to join you. If you belong to a group or club such as book, bridge, garden, hiking or language group, encourage them to donate together. Biblioteca volunteers have encouraged three book clubs to become donors.
