The Art of the Magical and the Mystical
By Jennifer Butz
Art’s magical and mystical powers come from addressing our two levels of being, the conscious one that delights our eyes and senses, and the unconscious one that captures our imagination and speaks to our soul.

You will not want to miss the latest works of Dawn Gaskill and Dan and Nisha Ferguson (whose work together is known as DaNisha Sculpture). Their art will delight you and engage you on many levels when they present their newest work at the Ángela Peralta Theater. These internationally recognized artists all make their home in San Miguel De Allende, Mexico.
Dan and Nisha and Dawn have worked together and show their art at Dawn’s Galería Eclectica in the Instituto Allende. They enjoy collaborating because their work has a common spirit—one of joy and delight—expressed through intense color and a blend of the sacred and the whimsical. Don’t miss examples of their latest collaboration for the Dawn & DaNisha art experience: “Archetypes and Spirit Animals, an Exploration of Ancient Wisdom by Discovering the Power in Your Personal Archetypes and Spirit Animals.”
Join them in a seven-day art experience to discover your personal archetypes and the symbols and create your own ceramic masks. For details on this unique experience, visit www.dawndanishaartexperience.com
Dawn travels the world and returns with an awareness and appreciation of different cultures, belief systems, archetypes, and symbols. Her goal is to take these and make them personal. “My vision is to joyfully create beautiful art that lifts people’s spirits, captures their imagination, and supports them in what they want to manifest in their lives.” She currently works with an encaustic medium that she makes with beeswax and tree resin as well earth pigments to make all her own colors.
Canadian artists Nisha and Dan Ferguson knew as children that they would be artists. From early childhood, both were fascinated with drawing. They have an amazing partnership in life and in their work. Dan makes the sculptures for the images and has a wonderful facility for capturing magical expressions in the animals, while Nisha then draws and plans the colors for each sculpture. With Nisha’s unique and fanciful drawings and designs, no two are ever alike. They use two materials, ceramic and bronze. Much of their work is characterized by the fanciful dances of animals around the insides and outsides of bowls and other ceramic objects, as well as cityscapes, sometimes encompassing a whole town with all its buildings around a bowl.
The show “The Magical and the Mystical” is a rare opportunity to savor the exquisite art of three marvelous artists. Their work, vibrant and joyful, is a delight and an inspiration. You won’t want to miss it.
