Smile, You Are in San Miguel

By Jade Arroyo

Last Saturday and Sunday, February 20 and 21, art lovers had the opportunity to go inside the private studios of super-talented San Miguel-based artists. They found an experience of creativity and socializing outside Centro. The San Antonio Open Studios offered the opportunity to visit 42 studios and 66 artists and their newest productions and works in progress.

In situ at the workshop, the visitors could see not only the finished product, but also the tools, tables, easels, and works in progress. People engaged in personal conversations with the creators about their choice of colors, materials, and images, and participate by purchasing a painting, a sculpture, a necklace, or a decorative object.

The San Antonio Open Studios is a volunteer event with a mission to support local artists and promote the arts in the community. This event is supported by 24 local businesses, thereby strengthening the ties in the community.

A kickoff cocktail was held at Arroyo Gallery on Rinconada de La Aldea, where each artist showed a sample of their work and talked about it to the attendees. The event was a huge success with an impressive turnout.

On Saturday and Sunday, walkers strolled around all the studios in San Antonio. To learn more, visit www.sanantonioopenstudios.com.
