The Improv People Are Taking a Leap!
By Joseph Bennett
Imagine being called to the stage and asked to perform a theatrical scene. You have nothing rehearsed. Nada. There are no sets to hide behind, no props to play with, no dog-eared pages of a script to refer to. Just you. And a few fellow actors. And a theater full of audience members watching. And listening. And shouting suggestions of what to do. Imagine that!

Teatro Santa Ana
This is what The Improv People do (voluntarily!) several times a year. And it feels an awful lot like jumping off a cliff without a safety net! And it requires a great deal of trust—trusting in yourself that you’ll be able to come up with something (anything!) to say in the moment to move the scene forward and trusting in your fellow actors that whatever you create they’ll support and vice versa. It’s exhilarating!
Later this month, in celebration of leap year, The Improv People will present Taking a Leap at Teatro Santa Ana on Friday and Saturday, February 26 and 27. Since its inception three years ago, the troupe has sold out every one of its shows at various venues around town. If history is apt to repeat itself, we’re likely to sell out again. All this is to say that you should get your tickets early! Visit theimprovpeople.com or the theater’s box office at Reloj 50A for tickets. Only 150 pesos. Thank you for supporting live, local theater!
