By Robbie Martin

Last year, Maestro Antonio Cabrero had a very enthusiastic response from the audience to a special program that included George Gershwin and jazz standards.

Solo Piano Concert
Maestro Antonio Cabrero
Thu, Feb 25, 6pm
Teatro Ángela Peralta
300/200 pesos
Tickets available at theater and La Biblioteca

This year, the piano concert will also include Gershwin music and jazz standards. However, in an interesting addition, the concert includes other jazz styles from composers such as Claude Bolling, Chick Corea, and Maurice Ravel, who was inspired by American jazz and, in turn, was fundamental in the development of new jazz harmonies and chords. You will hear them at the concert. Maestro Cabrero subscribes to a style of performance that always searches for the orchestral sound effect from the instrument.

The maestro will conclude with his own symphonic arrangements of jazz standards taken from classical music themes.

Antonio Cabrero is currently music director of the International Symphony Orchestra in San Miguel de Allende. He studied at the University of Houston and at Rice University, under the tutelage of Robert Brownlee and Roberto Eyzaguirre, a pupil of Claudio Arrau.
