Ojalá Niños Trip to Michoacán

Parque Nacional de Uruapan

By Janice Page

A fund-raising trip to Uruapan is coming up for Ojalá Niños. This trip includes the artisan’s fair in Uruapan. After a continental breakfast, a first-class bus leaves for a three-day sojourn on Tuesday, March 29. The first stop is in Morelia for lunch. The two nights will be spent at the Plaza Hotel, a four-star hotel in Uruapan. There will be a BYOB party each night with finger food supplied by Ojalá. Participants have the opportunity to visit the 90-foot Tzararacua Falls and the Parque Nacional Eduardo Ruiz, where they can also visit the trout farm and feast on fresh trout. The highlight of the trip is the artisans’ fair, with works by the artisans of Michoacan displayed in the zócalo. On the way home, there will be stops in Santa Clara del Cobre and Pátzcuaro. The trip will end March 31. The cost of the trip is 2,500 pesos (US$163), based on double occupancy, and 3,400 pesos (US$200) based on single occupancy, including bus, hotel, breakfasts, tips, and a donation to Ojalá Niños, which provides a program for the indigenous children of San Miguel Viejo. Money (in pesos, please) is due by Tuesday, March 1. Please contact Dennis or Janice at 152 5541 to reserve a space.
