What’s New in Town
By Jade Arroyo
San Miguel is expanding and growing and showing us a larger range of gastronomic options and new entertainment venues. Here we present a little guide of new and newish places that might have passed under your radar. Enjoy!
Mercado San Miguel is a hip new market in town. It covers your basic fruit and vegetable and daily shopping needs as well as attractive deli products, such as aged cheese; wines; a French-style bakery; and desserts. There are also little gourmet restaurant stalls with all kinds of food, from pizza to seafood to Southern (ideal to nibble on or take out). This shopping center is located at the corner of Nemesio Diez and Codo streets.
The boutique/coffee shop at Rosewood is a chic little place to find top quality San Miguel-made gifts: organic lavender goodies or a high-end poncho. In addition, there’s an excellent bakery with gourmet bread. You can sit down at a table on the terrace with your doggie on your return from the park. Nemesio Diez 11.
Per Se gallery is one of the newest additions to the design center Fábrica La Aurora. It features vintage modernist furniture from the 20th century. There’s also home wear, china, and photography by local artists. Calzada de la Aurora s/n.
El 58 is a restaurant/bar with the mood of a nightclub. The space is large, ideal for dancing, and housed in an inner courtyard with a tree on the middle. Every Thursday there’s live music featuring different band and musicians. Mesones 58.
