The Patriarch in the Unknown City
By Jesús Aguado
Frank (Benny Ibarra) lives in San Miguel de Allende and has a 17-year-old son (Sergio Mayer Mori). After a 12-year relationship with Alma (Jaqueline Bracamontes), however, tranquility is about to be disrupted by the arrival of the Patriarch, a conservative man who arrives in this liberal and multicultural city where Frank, his youngest son, lives.
The Patriarch (Héctor Bonilla) has had a life of suffering, and his only way out is to come to an unknown city where human values will be put to the test. That is just part of this story, which was filmed in San Miguel during the last five weeks and will be released before the end of 2016.
In a press conference, the actors talked about the characters they will bring to life in the movie. Jaqueline Bracamontes, one of the most popular Mexican actresses (Miss Mexico, 2010), commented that after these weeks, she fell in love with the magic of San Miguel and its people. In the film she will be Alma, a woman who inherits a giant house and, since “she is a charitable lady,” invites too many people to live for free at her place. Later she meets Frank, with whom she is happy until the arrival of the Patriarch.
Benny Ibarra commented that he has too many memories of San Miguel because he has been visiting the city for 40 years. His character, he assured, is just like him in real life. He received The Heart of San Miguel from the local government as cultural ambassador in 2015.
Fernando Olivera Rocha, secretary of Tourism, said that this is the fifth film supported by the state of Guanajuato since there is a Law for Cinematographic Development.
