“We are so thrilled for Pablo,” exclaims OSM Artistic Director John Bills, “and very grateful that he will be flying in from Spain for this special benefit performance.” Bills first discovered Aranday, now one of Mexico’s most promising young opera singers, in 2012. Pablo went on to win fourth prize in the 2013 Concurso, returned to San Miguel to star in the company’s Gala with Orchestra in 2014, and won second prize in 2015. “Pablo used his prize money to audition for Plácido Domingo’s elite training program in Valencia,” Bills continues, “and became one of only 13 singers accepted by Maestro Domingo last year!”
Plácido Domingo is one of the greatest and most celebrated opera stars of the past 50 years. Today, in addition to continuing his dual careers as singer and conductor, he is very active in training and assisting young singers.
Pablo Aranday’s performance tomorrow is underwritten in part by the Poulenc Foundation of Paris, France, and Les Jeunes Ambassadeurs Lyriques of Montreal, and is made possible through the gracious cooperation of Maestro Domingo and the Centre de Perfeccionament Plácido Domingo in Valencia. “We are tremendously grateful to Maestro Domingo and all three of these organizations for recognizing and supporting the important work we are doing in San Miguel on behalf of Mexico’s most promising young singers,” Bills says.
Tomorrow’s concert co-stars the vivacious and scintillating Adriana Valdés, first-prize winner of Concurso San Miguel 2014, and the captivating young dramatic soprano, Dhyana Arom, a winner in 2015. The concert begins at 2pm and is sure to be one of the most talked about events of the 2016 season.
