New Gourmet Market Arrives
Smile, You Are in San Miguel
By Jade Arroyo
San Miguel is becoming a more and more sophisticated, modern, and environmentally-conscious destination, offering new gourmet and alternative trade possibilities. Following a similar concept at the Roma market in Mexico City and the movement for sustainable and gourmet food, Mercado del Centro opened its doors on January 29. Its vision is to showcase the local producers who opt for healthy and fresh choices and care about the processes and craft of the making of food.
Mercado del Centro is comprised of 27 different booths offering a wide variety of fresh produce, like fruits and vegetables, cheeses, meats, wine, coffee, chocolate, and other delicacies, such as pizza, American Southern food, crepes, baked goods, and more. It’s the perfect place to shop with the family and stay for lunch, supporting the local economy and creating a sense of community through food.
Mercado del Centro is located on Codo 36, at the former location of Espino’s supermarket. At the opening were representatives from different ranches, tenants, chefs, Mayor Ricardo Villarreal, and tourism secretary Fernando Olivera.
