A Tribute to the Great Allende

Jesús Aguado

On January 21, 1769, in the small village of San Miguel el Grande, the great general Ignacio Allende, responsible for Mexican Independence, was born.

To celebrate the 247th anniversary of Allende’s birth, the local administration organized a tribute to the hero, which included a civil act in which Mayor Ricardo Villarreal cited “the size of the town where the men are born is not important, but the size of their work and their will to help their brothers,” Allende’s quotation, which reflected his own leadership.

The civic and military parade was held on the main streets of the city, featuring students from all levels, airplanes from the army, the spectacular military police from the 16th zone, and beauty queens.

The main celebration also featured a concert offered by the symphonic orchestra from the Secretariat of National Defense (SEDENA).
