Winston’s Story—In His Own Words
From the SPA
By Jayn Corral
“Hi. I’m Winston. If I may say so, I am quite a good-looking cat. I had the good fortune to live at the SPA as a very young kitty, but I was a bit weak at first. They were worried about whether I was strong enough to survive. A wonderful volunteer (Lucy) wanted to help by fostering me and giving me some extra care and attention, so she took me home. She loved me, fed me, and gave me medicine. I started to feel better. I lived with my foster family for about three weeks. I got stronger and grew.
When I was well enough, Lucy took me back to the SPA. About two weeks later, I was adopted and went to live with my forever family. I am the lucky one. I am so happy today, living a great life, because I had Lucy, my wonderful foster mom. I hope other kittens, cats, puppies, and dogs can be so lucky. By the way, my real mom, Winifred, is still looking for her forever home. I can vouch for her—she’ll be a great addition to the right family.”
The SPA needs foster homes for very young animals or those requiring extra care. SPA animals only see humans for about three to four hours a day, so a foster situation is particularly important for those needy animals. However, the greatest need is foster families for healthy dogs when we lack space to take them in. We are also looking for foster homes for dogs for weekend getaways (from Saturday after 2pm to Monday before 11am) —a win-win opportunity for both the dog and the fosterer. Our dogs would have the chance for a “home experience,” to meet more people which helps with socializing, and to get some extended one-on-one attention. The fosterer will receive love and devotion from one of our great dogs.
If you are not able to adopt, please consider fostering. Your help will be invaluable even if you are only in San Miguel for a short time. We will do our best to make it an easy and joyful experience for you and for our animals.
Please spread the word about the SPA’s foster program. Help us save or improve the life of a deserving animal. Do it for the animal and you will be amazed what the experience will do for you.
