Tribute to Buena Vista Social Club

By Alberto Vázquez Santos

The group emerged after the acclaimed 1997 album Buena Vista Social Club won a Grammy, and today its formation still has many of the original musicians who figured in the historical record and film, which was directed by Win Wenders. This was just the starting point for an extraordinary and wonderful journey. Over the years, the group has released successful albums, earned several Grammy awards, and performed countless concerts. Many concerts featured Ibrahim Ferrer, Ruben González, Cachaito López, Manuel Galban, and Roberto Fonseca, and living legends such as diva Omara Portuondo (voice), master Guajiro Mirabal (trumpet), and virtuoso Barbarito Torres (lute).
