San Miguel Writers’ Conference Legendary Fiesta February 12, 2016
By Lee Bellavance Diamond
The San Miguel Writers’ Conference (February 10-14, 2016) is famous for its fiesta that is, without a doubt, the social highlight of this bilingual and tricultural literary confab.
San Miguel Writers’ Conference Legendary Fiesta
Slated for Fri, Feb 12
Ancha de San Antonio
Drink (including mescal), food, music, and dancing are all featured at the fabulous party slated for Friday, February 12 at the historic Instituto Allende, starting at 8pm.
The legendary fiesta, known as one of the best parties of the year, promises to showcase all of the best of Mexican food, drink, color, and entertainment. As always it will be full of surprises and thrills, highlighting a year’s worth of San Miguel festivities in one glorious night, according to Carole Schor, long-time fiesta coordinator for the conference.
The fiesta is also a chance to visit the world-renowned Instituto Allende, where the “first wave” of gringos to land in San Miguel during the 1950s, studied art, often on the G.I. Bill. The conference fiesta is a perfect opportunity to party and play in the same courtyards, alcoves, and patios those artists, writers, and wannabe beats trod in the 50s and 60s.
So this party is indeed special from the historic venue to the Mexican street food, from the mariachis to the mojigangas, and to the literary stars such as Joyce Carol Oates and Luis Urea who are expected to attend.
For more information on how you can be there too, check out the San Miguel Writers’ Conference website www.sanmiguelwritersconference.org. But be forewarned: the fiesta sells out every year!
