Writers’ Conference Excursions Cover the Area!

Whether you’re a longtime San Miguel local or are coming from such far-flung places as Quebec or San Francisco—the San Miguel Writers’ Conference’s (February 10-14, 2016) special excursions program offers a unique opportunity to get a special glimpse of life and art in Mexico.

And this year the tour options include diverse offerings such as a Rancho tour that will visit a rural Mexican farming village, a Haiku Walk at El Charco del Ingenio’s delightful botanical refuge, and a trip to the famed La Gruta Hot Springs.

There are several wonderful trips planned for art buffs! Practice Mindful Photography in San Miguel on the 11th of February plumbs the rich possibilities for the lens to capture here. The Bus Trip to Atotonilco Church and Galería Atotonilco visits a world heritage site AND trip advisor’s top not-to-miss-spot in San Miguel—the Galería. For an opportunity to visit some of the unforgettable studios, homes, galleries and shops of exciting local artists and designers, Maia’s Magical Art, Architecture & Design Tour is highly recommended.

For a glimpse into the life and times of the area, the Tour of Elegant Homes in San Miguel may fill the bill. Or to experience life in a rural Mexican farming Village, there is Augustin Gonzales Rancho Tour. Back by popular demand is the Catina Crawl: “Beat” Afternoon in San Miguel’s Old Cantinas. It’s a great opportunity to kick back, sip tequila and learn a bit about the wilder side of SMA. The Bus Trip to La Gruta Hot Springs may be in order If all the action at the conference has left you in need of carefree relaxation. The highly informative Historic Walking Tour of San Miguel provides the back-story of it all.

Another fabulous excursion is the Nature as Muse: Haiku Walk at El Charco del Ingenio. This walk-about/write-about experience takes place in one of the most enchanting venues in the magical city of San Miguel.

The excursions are not part of any conference package, and typically sell out weeks in advance of the Conference. More information about excursions and individual tickets are available at the conference website ( and vary in price from US15 to US45 dollars.

A limited number of Full Conference packages are still available. The Conference is a Literary Festival as well as a Writers’ Conference, and we encourage avid readers to attend the full Conference, as well. Every time we break into smaller workshops, we always hold a session in our “The Pleasures Of Reading” series, designed specifically for readers. Our popular Basic Package had sold out, but because of loud clamoring for more, we have opened up fifteen more Basic Packages. Full Conference packages, which include all the social events, are still available, as are the Whole Enchilada packages, which include two 3-hour intensive writing workshops by our extraordinary teaching faculty. All of our keynote speakers, the Rituales movie, Excursions. and the Storytelling Fest are open to the public by individual ticket.
