Gala Fundraiser with the Stars of Un Ballo in Maschera
By Michael Pearl
The Los Ricos community is only few miles outside San Miguel in distance, but a galaxy away in well-being. It is isolated, lacks medical and other facilities, and has a shortage of basic utilities. For the necessities of life, families must travel to San Miguel, walking miles to a bus stop on the main road. The village has a primary school with about 70 children. It was here that Pro Musica initiated its ground breaking program, “Rhythm, Rhyme and Reason” (RRR) five years ago, teaching the basics of music to all children in the school.
Pro Musica Concert Series
February 16, 5pm
Private Mansion, El Mirador
The program is not about turning the children into classical musicians. It is about giving them self-respect standing among their peers and an interest beyond the narrow school curriculum. The success of the program is evident from the enthusiasm of the children and their parents and teachers. Every school wants us to teach it, but that would be impossible. What we can do with your help is to reach out to as many children as we can. Today we teach nearly 800 children in five schools, and more are queuing up to join the program.
Our main source of funding for RR&R and our violin-teaching program in the Mexiquito orphanage is our Gala Fundraiser from which all the proceeds go to the education outreach program.
In 2016, this spectacular occasion will be on Tuesday, February 16, at 5 pm, in the week preceding the opera, Un Ballo in Maschera, on the following Friday and Saturday, February 19 and 20 at 7 pm. The stars of the opera will be performing at the gala and are giving their services free. The venue is in the stunning music pavilion of a magnificent private mansion in El Mirador, next to Los Frailes. The evening will start with a champagne and canapé reception in the magnificent gardens of the house, where guests will wander on impeccably mown lawns amid stunning gardens as the sun sets.
Immediately before dinner, there will be a short performance by children from our programs to show you what we are teaching them. We will then withdraw to the music pavilion for a sit down, waiter-served, three-course gourmet dinner with wine, provided by a leading caterer, where the cast of the opera will be seated among you at the tables.
The highlight of the evening, after dinner, will be a wide-ranging program of songs performed by the stars of the opera, accompanied on the grand piano by maestro Mario Alberto Hernandez, the now legendary music director of the opera. Songs will include numbers from well-known Broadway musicals, Mexican favorites, Zarzuela, and opera arias (but not from Un Ballo in Maschera).
Places at the gala are strictly limited, so the evening will be intimate and exclusive, with a chance to spend time with the singers and get to know them.
Tickets are priced at US$150 each and may be purchased directly through Pro Musica at any of our concerts or by emailing your ticket request to firstname.lastname@example.org. There will be no raffles, drawings or auctions.
