Danzón: The Christmas Comeback
By Leonardo Rosen
Many thanks to our dear public for the success of our two events in November at the Jardín Principal and the Plaza Cívica. The events were on short notice with almost no announcement. Nevertheless, you were there! We thank Lic. Ricardo Villareal, Presidente Municipal; Arq. Gustavo Vidargas, Director de Cultura y Tradiciones; and Gaby Yunes of that department for bringing us back after a long involuntary absence. Look for our calendar in the New Year.
With el Danzón y Otros Ritmos Bailables con el Club de Danzón Mercerina
Sun, Dec 20, 4-7pm
On November 21, the Club de Danzón “Mercerina”/Grupo CEDECOM represented SMA with honor at the Muestra Nacional del Danzón de Querétaro 2015. Congratulations and much appreciation to Claudia, Rosío, Omar, Cristina, Martín, and the children, Sofy and Yaír, for their beautiful performances in our choreography, “Celos” (“Jealousy”), with the renowned orchestra, Felipe Urbán y su Danzonera. By the time you read this, Dr. Claudia Llanas and I will have participated in a major national danzón event in the port of Veracruz, once again representing our city.
Now we can properly advertise our Christmas event: “El Danzón y Otros Ritmos Bailables con el Club de Danzón Mercerina.” This takes place in the Jardín Principal in San Miguel Allende on Sunday, December 20, 4-7pm, free admission. For information, please call 152 6385 (Cultura y Tradiciones) or 154 5840 (Leonardo Rosen). We play the best danzón and other Latin rhythms for your dancing pleasure as we have done for seven and a half years. There are dance exhibitions, too. As always, you are the stars of this show!
More than anything, I appreciate you, the people, for not forgetting us. ¡Pa’ bailar con ritmo y sabor!
