Plein Air Painting in Maine

By Silvia Velásquez

Last September Mike Kleimo went on a watercolor painting trip. He first painted in Illinois before heading to Maine to assist Guy Corriero, a well-known East Coast artist and former resident of San Miguel, in a painting workshop.

Maine’s coast, the water, hills, boats, and working harbors inspired him to paint every day in beautiful places like Belfast, Camden, Rockport, Castine, Portland, and artistically historic Monhegan Island.

Painting on site, breathing the air, and talking to the locals created an emotional sense of place that is reflected in the painting. These new watercolors are full of light and movement and show the big contrast between the pa-lettes and attitudes of coastal Maine and central Mexico.

We hope to see you at Kleimo’s opening on December 5 at the ZOHO Gallery Art Walk, Fábrica la Aurora.
