Is It or Is It Not

By Lola Smith

Playreaders switches to its winter schedule of three performances with Bakersfield Mist by Stephen Sachs, to be presented on Tuesday, December 1, Wednesday, December 2, and Thursday, December 3. The play, which was inspired by a true event, received unqualified raves from the critics. “Not to be missed,”  “Thoroughly entertaining,” “Wonderfully funny,” “A triump! Hugely gratifying” are typical of the many enthusiastic reviews the play received.

Maude, a fifty-something unemployed bartender, has bought a painting for a few bucks from a thrift store. Jackson Pollock convinces her it’s a lost masterpiece, worth millions. But when world-class art expert Lionel Percy flies in from New York to authenticate the painting, he has no idea what he is about to discover. Lionel Percy is played by Jim Wright, and Kate Rowland will play Maude. Lola Smith directs. The play starts at 7:30pm or earlier if the house is full. A 20 pesos donation is requested.
