A Personal Celebration that Gave Back to the Community

Linda Hampton and her Gaica

By Bere Parra

Linda Hampton is a force to be reckoned with, as can be attested by one of her longtime clients, Felipe Grimberg, renowned art dealer and author of the recently published Selling Botero. As he writes in the acknowledgments section of his book, Hampton, an executive business coach, helps clarify her clients’ visions through her particular insight. This insight helped propel Hampton to move to San Miguel de Allende a little over two years ago. One thing was clear: she wanted to give back to the local community.

Hampton’s involvement with local charities such as Rescate y Protección Animal San Miguel de Allende, Patronato Pro Niños, and Feed The Hungry is proof that she has created much more than just a nice home for herself in San Miguel; she is also an agent of change. On November 14, Hampton threw an amazing birthday party. Instead of gifts, she asked all those invited to put their “pesos in the pot.” All donations raised would go to the organizations mentioned above. Nine thousand pesos were raised that night, and her friends abroad asked how they could make donations online.

Feed The Hungry San Miguel serves 18,000 meals per month to children in need. Under the premise that good nutrition leads to academic improvement, which leads to good jobs, Feed The Hungry seeks to break the cycle of poverty.

Patronato Pro Niños offers free or very low-cost medical, dental, and physiological services to children of San Miguel de Allende up to the age of 16.

Hampton’s best friends are Gaia and Suerte, two rescued female dogs. This is why part of the donations raised for her birthday this year went to Rescate y Protección Animal San Miguel de Allende. “We’re independent animal rescuers, donations are very important; we’re completely self funded. We have a small van to reach animals in a state of emergency; we get sponsors for each creature we take under our care. We have two local shelters, where people can go and adopt a new best friend. I think Linda’s idea is great. She has a huge heart, and she always thinks of those who need help the most,” said Sandra Echeverría, the driving force behind the organization.

Both Hampton’s parents, very generous and kind persons, passed away recently. “I thought, what better way to honor them than to continue with the manifestation of generosity and kindness,” said Hampton. “Many of my friends have already told me they’re doing the same thing for their next birthdays.”
