Artemio Sepúlveda at Casa Diana
By Diana Friedeberg
At age 15, Artemio Sepúlveda began his studies in fine arts at the Esmeralda in Mexico City. He worked under the tutelage of Maestro Orozco during this time and joined his workshop after he completed his studies. He began his career in 1955 as an independent artist. He has since been widely successful and greatly admired. Sepúlveda has had numerous collective and individual exhibitions, such as at the Academia de San Carlos in Mexico City in 1963, Fine Arts Gallery in Laguna Beach in 1983, Nicola Gallery in Los Angeles in 1990, the Centro Cultural el Nigromante in San Miguel last year, and the Museo Regional de Chihuahua this year.

The collection consists mainly of nudes in large and medium format. The characters portrayed transmit strength and an imposing personality. Yet their story remains elusive. The intensity of their gaze and the expression of their body language could tell stories of passion, longing, and hope, or maybe of heartbreak, frustration, and anguish. This is for the observer to decide; what Artemio clearly conveys is that these characters have a lot to say and demand to be heard.
This coming Saturday, November 21, at 5pm, Galería Casa Diana will host a cocktail opening to present Sepulveda’s recent work.
Galería Casa Diana is located at Recreo 48. www.galeriacasadiana.com, 152 0885.
