Swing Dance Party
By David Ziff
Siempre Swing Band will return to El Sindicato with dynamic vocalists Mittie Roger and Barbara Lee to present a Swing Dance Party. As a very special treat, joining Siempre Swing will be two exciting professional dance duos: Peter and Roxy Molina of Mexico City and Daniel Newsome and Sasha Anderson of Colorado.
Swing Dance Party
Sat, Nov 14, 7:15pm
Students 75 pesos
Peter and Roxy started their swing dance community, Forever Swing, in Mexico City four years ago and are now extending their work to other states. With Daniel and Sasha they will demo their exciting dance moves during breaks in the music. And their workshop students will perform a choreographed number for the crowd.
Friendships between town expats and Mexican musicians have produced the exciting and compelling sounds of San Miguel’s own Siempre Swing Band, a big band-style concert and dance band. The band will take you down that musical memory lane from the hot swing classics—“In The Mood,” “Fly Me To The Moon,” and “Jump Jive and Wail”—through the jump blues of “Choo Choo Cha Boogie,” and rhythm and blues Kansas City to the early rock n’ roll of “Johnny B. Goode.” To keep things interesting, there will be a sprinkling of Latin dance tunes.
There will be a free introductory swing dance lesson just prior to the dance party at 7:15pm. No partner is required. This is a rare opportunity to learn from these fine swing dance professionals. These top-flight Lindy hoppers are in town for a weekend swing dance workshop, and we have been lucky enough to have them for the evening at El Sindicato
For the event, El Sindicato will be transformed into a club with a large dance floor, small tables, auditorium seating, and bar. If you want to dance or just tap your foot schmoozing at your table … if you’re “In the Mood” to “Jump, Jive and Wail” … You’ll want to spend the evening with Siempre Swing Saturday, November 14, at El Sindicato.
