Holiday Gift Ideas for Animal Lovers

From the SPA

By Megan Gabel

Right about now, you are probably working on your gift list for the holidays. Most likely, you and many of your friends and family members are saturated with “things,” so trying to figure out what new trinket to purchase is difficult and probably feels a bit wasteful. We have the perfect solution for you! How about making an “In Honor of donation” to the SPA? When someone asks you what you would like, why not suggest a donation to the SPA? Celebrate Christmas, New Year’s, Thanksgiving, Chanukah, Dia de Reyes, a birthday, an anniversary—you name it, a donation to the SPA would be a wonderful way for gift-giver, gift-recipient, and the SPA to feel great!

The Sociedad Protectora de Animales is the only no-kill animal shelter for cats and dogs in San Miguel. We feed, house, and care for a combined average of 100 families’ pets-to-be that are also routinely vaccinated and sterilized as part of being adopted. We focus on getting our animals adopted (like Cassie, Reya, Louie, and Samson) so we can take more off the streets and from people who have rescued animals and fostered them until we have room. There is never a shortage of homeless, needy animals. More than 175 dogs and cats have been adopted from the SPA this year.

We’ve been doing this for more than 35 years and rely on donations of time, money, and supplies from volunteers and generous souls in this community and elsewhere (including the US and Canada). Despite economizing in every way possible, we always run at a loss. Making a donation to the SPA this holiday season would allow us to continue doing what we’ve been doing. We definitely could use your help!

It’s simple to arrange for an “In Honor of” donation. It can be completed through our website, www.spasanmiguel.org using PayPal (under the How to Help tab—Support Our Fundraisers page). Or come to the SPA (Los Pinos 7, 152 6124) to arrange for your gift. If you need more information, please email info@spasanmiguel.org.

Save the date (opening reception November 19 at the Vintage Poster Gallery, Zacateros 57) for a premiere exhibit of vintage posters from The Rosenberg Collection. Specially selected for the SPA benefit show are lovable creatures illustrated in movie, music, theater, travel, and circus posters. A percentage of the proceeds from poster sales for the month will benefit the SPA. Don’t miss this visual delight for all animal and art lovers!
